  • What is a Person-Centred Counsellor / Therapeutic Practitioner?
Person-centred counselling is a type of talking therapy. Counsellors who use this approach are trained to provide empathy, acceptance and openess to support the improvement of your wellbeing. In person-centred counselling, therapists are trained to trust the client's self-healing tendency, so they provide a flexible space to talk that will be guided by what feels right for you. A Therapeutic Practitioner is a trained and experienced professional committed to early intervention and providing opportunities to promote positive mental health, social relationships and emotional wellbeing. Shanna is a person centred counsellor and therapeutic practitioner. She uses creative tools like writing, to connect with and empower you as you grow and develop.
  • What is Therapeutic Creative Writing?
Creative writing is any form of written or spoken word that you can engage with creatively. There are no limits to the type of writing this can include! Here are some examples: - Songwriting - Poetry - Journalling - Letter writing - Story - Free writing - Spoken word - Speech Therapeutic Creative Writing is the use of writing as a window into your feelings and emotions. Therapeutic writing can help you to understand feelings that exist just below the surface of your awareness, give a voice to parts of you that are hard to express, and process events and emotions that are holding you back in some way. It is a kind and gentle way of learning more about yourself and a skill you can practise in order to write your own happiness! Shanna takes a 'person-centred' therapeutic approach, which means she trusts her clients to use every session as they need to, so every session may be a little different. Generally, you can expect to spend a little time talking about your life and feelings, a little time thinking about how you may use creative writing therapeutically, and a little time doing some writing together to work on improving your emotional well-being and mental health. Some sessions may be all about talking and sharing, other sessions may be all about writing - this will depend on what you feel is best for you that day. We hope you will begin to trust yourself, learn more about yourself, and discover how to use creative writing as a continuous self-care tool.
  • How do online sessions work?
We currently use Google Meets for our online sessions. I'll schedule the session and send you an invite to join via email. We will also share phone numbers so that I can give you a call if either of us have connection issues during the video call. If you need help using Google Meets, just let me know! I advise having a private space for your call, and ask that you don't have anyone else in the room during sessions. If this isn't possible, we can discuss your options.
  • What should I do if I feel unsafe, suicidal, or I'm worried I may harm myself?
